Making a Difference
While there is much unfortunate news of people struggling to meet their daily basic needs, the Community Kitchen is grateful for all the help we have received over the past few years from the communities and businesses along the Grand Strand. Among all the donors who support the Community Kitchen there is one donor who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Special thanks go out to Ian Maguire, a local attorney, who over the past seven years has been an ardent supporter of feeding the hungry the hungry. Nearly one in five people in the Carolina’s does not know where there next meal will come from and the new nemesis among the poor is “food insecurity”- when people have to choose between buying food or paying the electric bill, or paying a medical bill, or paying the rent. Although the Community Kitchen has seen a significant increase in the number of people fed daily, the local community continues to support our mission and Ian Maguire has extended a lifeline to the kitchen during this period of increased need.
As a community, we need to ensure that ending hunger is a priority. With Ian’s unfailing dedication to helping those in need of a nutritious meal, we have been able to continue our mission of feeding the hungry. The Community serves two hot nutritious meals a day. Meals are served Monday – Friday. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and lunch is from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
With so much misery and degradation in the lives of the homeless, with so many mired in long-term poverty, unemployment and under-employment, the Community Kitchen welcomes all who come through our doors. We are extremely proud of the impact we make in the lives of the marginalized. It is due to the collective efforts of our volunteers and most importantly, our donors. As we look ahead, we know that both the need and challenge of providing our services will be greater than ever. Ian Maguire, through generous monetary donations, ensures the Community Kitchen will not only survive, but thrive! In the end, all that matters is that you have made a difference: Ian Maguire has made a difference!
