Methods of Giving
Transfer Stocks
For those of you who may not be familiar with the process, you can transfer stocks to our brokerage account which then becomes available to us to use for food, feeding supplies, capital repairs and expenditures.
With your appreciated stocks, you can transfer shares to us and then take a deduction for the full amount from your income tax. As previously stated, we are a 501(3)(c) charity, Tax Id 57-0965358, and all donations are tax exempt. When you transfer stocks you avoid paying capital gains tax and you give us the benefit of the full appreciated value. Depreciated Securities?
You can sell stock that has declined in a down market and claim that loss on your tax return. Then, donate the cash from the sale of the stock and, of course, claim a charitable deduction on your tax return for the amount of the gift. A professional stock broker can assist you in making this type of gift.
Cash
The most standard and familiar way to make a donation or year end gift. Simply write a check or transfer money via PayPal. All donations are tax deductible.
Property
Both real estate and personal property qualify as charitable gifts that would benefit the Community Kitchen. Consider real estate, such as residences, farmland and buildings, as well as antiques, jewelry, artwork/coin collections or other collectibles.
Business Gifts
Businesses can make gifts and receive tax deductions as well. Business can also make in-kind donations, such as inventory, equipment, materials and services , as well as cash.
Life Insurance
Cash value in current or paid up life insurance policies can benefit the Community Kitchen as well. Of course, naming the Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach as your beneficiary of life insurance proceeds would be a beautiful way to care for our lessor ones. You may even designate policy dividends as gifts.
Matching Gifts
If you are an employee or a participating retiree of a company or corporation with a “Matching Gifts Program” your donation may be matched which would double your donation in assisting us in our cause.
